The team began in Boston in 1876 as the Red Stockings then moved to Milwaukee in 1953 and then to Atlanta in 1965. As a member of the National Association, the team was known as the Red Caps. Later, the team became commonly was known as the Beaneaters. In 1912, the team became known as the Braves because the owner was a Tammany Hall chieftain. The teams notable alumni include pitcher Warren Spahn and Hank Aaron. The Braves play in the National League East Division.
