About Meg Ryan

Meg Ryan was born Margaret Mary Emily Ann Hyra in Fairfield, Connecticut on November 19, 1961. "Peggy," as she was called, had an academically and socially rewarding high school career in Bethel, Connecticut, where she reigned as homecoming queen. She began acting professionally while enrolled as a journalism major at NYU as a way of earning extra money. Around that time she changed her name to Meg Ryan, and in 1981 made her movie debut in Rich and Famous as Candice Bergen's daughter. Meg then moved to LA, where she was cast as Betsy Montgomery in the daytime TV soap As the World Turns, a role which lasted from 1982-1984.
