About George Washington

George Washington was born February 22, 1732 to Augustine and Mary (Ball) Washington at Wakefield Farm, Westmoreland County, Virginia. He married his wife Martha in 1759. In 1774 Washington served as a delegate from Virginia in the First Continental Congress. Washington was selected as commander in chief of the Continental Army in 1775. Washington was inaugurated as the first president of the United States on April 30, 1789, in New York, the first national capital and served eight years. George Washington died at Mount Vernon on Dec. 14, 1799.
